Liberals against Ignatieff

Liberals devouring their own — hee, hee. And their solution is…Bob Rae, former commie Premier of Ontario! I love it, Libs — Please elect Bob Rae; he’s oh so popular in Ontario. ;)

I think the liberals will go for a newbie, this time around. They need someone that is not tainted with the corruption of the Crouton/Martin years. They can’t use Justin Trudeau, not just because he has commie written all over him, but because he doesn’t hold any appeal to anyone over 40, and face it, that is who votes.

I was thinking Leblanc, but since he let the liberals use his dad’s corpse in a failed liberal attack ad, that leaves him looking like he has as much integrity as the Montreal mafia.

Who could bring the party together and give them credibility, would be Tobin, McKenna or Wells, but they won’ t run. More than likely because they are in the know of the corruption within the liberal party.

The current ‘Iffy’ polling melt down has the stench of rancid cat meat about it. ;-)

Genetic Liberal viciousness and ego.

It’s a gift that keeps on giving to the Harperites.

… M & S: My Dad in Ottawa is also less than enthusiastic about Bob Rae.
… However, he is a master of speaking and saying nothing, and is Shakespearian in his capacity to turn on the indignation and outrage- the prime qualifications for a Liberal leader.
… His past legacy would be white-washed by the MSM.
… Next spring, for sure.

Ah, I see, you’re interested in the entertainment value. I can see that. I’m kind of enjoying watching Iggy go Dion’s route. It might be fun to watch Rae vs Harper.

My personal theory is that the Liberal Party was destroyed by Paul Martin and his supporters, who naively thought that is would be a good idea to force out a three-term Prime Minister so their own guy could have a turn. The party was consequently split right down the middle, and we saw the Chretien faction undermining the Martinites every chance they got, which was a large part of him losing the next election. This resulted in the selection of a Liberal leader that nobody wanted (Dion) because Rae’s supporters would never vote for Ignatieff (and vice-versa). The same thing continues to happen now: Bob Rae’s people undermine Ignatieff every chance they get, and Ignatieff’s own people will do the same thing if Rae takes over the leadership.

The Liberals have only one hope now…they have to dump both Ignatieff *and* Rae, and select someone palatable to both sides. If they don’t, this internal feud will continue and they will remain in opposition.

True -that’s part of the reason Martin lost, but also he dithered on many issues. Most saw him as very indecisive.

I think you’re probably right about dumping both Iggy and Rae — but, shhh, don’t tell the Libs that. ;)

I don’t know why but Boob Rae comes across as a doddering old fool. Apologies to doddering old fools everywhere.

9 MooseandSquirrel Sunday, October 25, 2009, 7:18 pm at 7:18 pm

Especially when he went skinny-dipping with Rick Mercer.

10 Iain G. Foulds Sunday, October 25, 2009, 4:50 pm at 4:50 pm

… Mr. Rae was the smart choice in the first place. Dion and Ignatieff were mistakes- awkward, embarrassing individuals in the wrong place in life.
… I am against everything Liberal- the party that stands for nothing. However, Rae is the right leader, will take the time to re-establish a more centrist image, and will be a worthy foil to PM Harper.

11 MooseandSquirrel Sunday, October 25, 2009, 5:06 pm at 5:06 pm

Iain, I was about to ask if you were nuts, but then I remembered you’re a Westerner (you didn’t experience his government first hand). :) Rae is not well liked here in Ontario (putting it mildly).

Rae — more centrist? He’s a former NDPer, who only left those bozos ’cause he knew he’d be able to go further in the Liberal party. It is highly unlikely that Ontario would tolerate Rae as PM — we just barely survived him as Premier (under the NDP).

Still, as Joanne below said, McGuinty is actually making Rae look pretty good. ;)

12 Bob Devine Sunday, October 25, 2009, 8:05 pm at 8:05 pm

Maybe I do not have this right but if memory serves me right Pierre Trudeau started out with the NDP or maybe their predecessors the CCF. He switched because he knew he would go nowhere with them. Its been so long my memory is blurred. I seem to recall a very prominent female liberal being overheard by the press hollering at her colleagues at the convention when it started to look like he would win “we have to stop that NDP? CCF? bastard” and it dominated the news the next day. Thus I think Ontario voters have done really strange things in the past when it comes to socialism and who promises them the most. I do not include you or the vast majority of your commenters but you know I`m just saying.

13 Honey Pot Sunday, October 25, 2009, 4:46 pm at 4:46 pm

You think they would have waited to crown Rae until Iggy was on the plane back to Haar-vaad. I can’t see the left letting Rae be the leader, with so many of them being anti-semites. Remember what happened last time when they circulated that flyer about Rae being married to a Jew.

That is a whack of donations to the liberal party they will be losing if they crown Rae.

14 MooseandSquirrel Sunday, October 25, 2009, 5:09 pm at 5:09 pm

I think the Libs thought Iggy was the next Trudeau (only they would think that was a good thing). I can’t see Rae, as leader, winning in Ontario — he’s still hated pretty strongly here.

Thankyou Anne in Ontario. Regarding Cain and Abel – this was a rivalry between brothers (Rae/Ignatieff or perhaps Martin/Cretien). The “Curse or Mark of Cain” would be the bitter infighting between the factions. I’m just glad to be in the bleachers watching Liberal modern history. I am old enough to remember the wars of Diefenbaker and his detractors. Cheers.

16 Honey Pot Sunday, October 25, 2009, 11:48 am at 11:48 am

hahahahaha. good stuff. It will take divine intervention for the liberals to rebuild within the next five years.

Great analogy, fern! But which one is the evil Cain in the Liberal Party of Eden?

18 MooseandSquirrel Sunday, October 25, 2009, 11:49 am at 11:49 am

It’s gotta be the Lying Jackal.

19 fernstalbert Sunday, October 25, 2009, 10:48 am at 10:48 am

Its biblical on the scale of Genesis! Liberals thrown out of the Garden of Government and who will redeem the party? If it is Bob Rae, then, surprise, surprise, I don’t see him as the Saviour. After the Ontario experience, would anyone who lived through that time consider giving this politician more access to the taxpaying citizen. He may offer the fruit of knowledge, experience and mellifluous cadence, but can he be trusted? Cheers.

They should have added – “He hired the Lying Jackal – Nuff Said”

21 MooseandSquirrel Sunday, October 25, 2009, 11:48 am at 11:48 am

I didn’t know that.

22 wilson Sunday, October 25, 2009, 10:31 am at 10:31 am

Bob Rae, #3, is a coalitionist.
He doesn’t want to lead a united Liberal party, Bobby wants to unite the left and seize power in one fell swoop.
It appears he has Chretien’s blessing.

23 Tripper523 Sunday, October 25, 2009, 10:27 am at 10:27 am

Talk about backing your leader. A definite schism exists in the LPC which will certainly continue its self-destructive implosion down to further insignificance as a useful Official Opposition. As Angelo Persichilli’s Red Star column this morning expounded, the bare truth of the matter is that there is “no viable alternative” to the existing government. In essence,
why be critical of something you can’t replace? Mere ambition for power doesn’t get you there, no matter the level of charisma possessed by the leader. Trading the Igneutered One for the X-Ray Dipper won’t make a beanfield of difference.

24 Joanne (T.B.) Sunday, October 25, 2009, 10:05 am at 10:05 am

Wow! That’s a pretty powerful video!

As for Bob Rae, Dalton is making him look quite good by comparison.

25 MooseandSquirrel Sunday, October 25, 2009, 10:10 am at 10:10 am

I know what you mean — hard to believe that could happen! ;)
