John Stossel on the Lame-Stream Media’s double standard

John Stossel has quite a good article over at Real Clear Politics about how he suddenly “broke the rules” and was labelled as “biased” by lame-stream journos. You see, when you grow up — mature and evolve — and realize that big government isn’t the answer, that limited government is where prosperity’s at…well, obviously, now you’re biased. (Snort!)

Stossel then & now:

I clearly had a point of view: I was a crusader out to punish corporate bullies. My colleagues liked it. I got job offers. I won 19 Emmys. I was invited to speak at journalism conferences.

Then, gradually, I figured out that business, for the most part, treats consumers pretty well. The way to get rich in business is to create something good, sell it for a reasonable price, acquire a reputation for honesty and keep pleasing customers so they come back for more.

You see, his point of view changed — it evolved — but his colleagues, whose points of view remained stagnant, adopted a different attitude toward him:

Suddenly, I wasn’t so popular with them.

I stopped winning Emmys.
[...]
On the air they told me that I was no longer objective. I was too stunned to defend myself effectively. I said something like: “I’ve always had a point of view. How come you had no trouble with that when I criticized business?”

In hindsight, I wish I’d said: “Look at the title on the wall, you hypocrites! It shows you have a point of view, too. Many reporters do. You just don’t like my arguments now that I no longer hew to your statist line. So you want to shut me up.”

In Lame-Stream Media’s world, you’re not allowed to have an opinion that differs from the collective. And Stossel leaving ABC — a real news network — for Fox…well, that was just the nail in his coffin, wasn’t it.

If I had to choose between Fox News and the Onion, I would choose the later. The Onion seems more objective than Faux News.

I enjoy The Onion too. :)

But I’d take Fox over CNN, MSNBC, ABC, etc.

“Faux News”. My my, how clever. Is that the best you can do? All news organizations show some bias. FOX NEWS is conservative. All others are liberal. Hardly an even match don’t you think?

And IMO, Fox shows less bias than the others.
