Politicians chatting on the public dime

The headline writer put the apostrophe in the wrong place (see below). When I first read the headline, I thought it was a single MP who’d run up $3.7 million in phone charges. I thought “Whoa, no more phone sex or psychic hotlines for you.” As it turns out, that’s the total for all MPs.

Report: MP’s phone calls cost $3.7M

And the biggest spender:

A Bloc Quebecois MP who once accused Israel of war crimes racked up more phone charges than any other MP last year, largely the result of a trip to Lebanon.

However, Maria Mourani says the $34,205 tab is justified because it allowed her to keep in touch with her office during the month long trip that she paid for out of her own pocket.

And, who knew, but apparently diversity is expensive:

Some of the biggest spenders when it comes to picking up the telephone are often MPs from different ethnic communities or who have a deep interest in international affairs.

A Bloc member of Lebanese heritage who cares more for Lebanon than Canada.

Ah, the joys of multiculturalism.

You know, there are some who would consider you a bigot or “raaaaacist” for pointing that out. ;)

Heard it all now, Canadian mp’s having a hotline to hezzbolah. We really need to rid our country of these political terrorist supporters. What in hell are we paying these politicians big gobs of money to put Canadians citizens in danger. What don’ t these stupid bastards get about islam being a great danger to the civilized world?

Actually, in her defence, that particular Bloc MP did retract her accusation against Israel. Not that I believe her retraction for one minute…;)
