George Jonas has another great piece in the National Post: Science is only human.
My favourite parts:
The starter’s gun went off. While Science was fiddling with its shoelaces, Ideology was halfway around the track.
And this:
Climate change is statism’s Trojan Horse for boosting government, diminishing civil and property rights, and enriching the Third World at the expense of First.
The only thing I want to add is that I believe there are many people who genuinely — and naively — believe the alarmists’ claims, accepting exaggerations and outright lies as facts. I feel sorry for those — many of them children — who’ve had the fear of Gaia’s retribution pounded into them.
I wish people would look beneath the hype, the alarmism. Follow the money trail in this carbon-trading Ponzi scheme: Who stands to benefit from global climate control regulations? Who are the biggest and most vocal climate change promoters and who backs them? Then ask yourself: Who stands to lose?

Here is my own order imposed on the chaos today with my own limited aspects of today’s reality. I have seen with my own eyes receded glacial activity, and vegetative growth in the north where there have not been in recorded memory of the locals. Does this mean that what humans will attempt to do in the biosphere will impede the global warmth being recorded today? Perhaps.
But in the drop of time that this planet has existed affected by the sun in this system, how can the assumptions of climate plagiarists really be taken for truth.
The cooling and warming periods, devoid of industrial revolution, would have happened regardless. We are at the whim of forces beyond burning a chunk of fossil fuels or cutting down entire forests. Where the impact of asteroids or super volcanoes in the past something that today’s greenies could have changed had our civilizations been vibrant then?
The reality is that the earth will warm because the sun is warmer. Period. We may affect short term changes by increasing or decreasing the amount of CO2 or methane, but in the end, there is a finite amount of materials this planet has and can re-integrate within its gravitational influence.
What should be of concern is that fact that our magnetic pole has been expodentially shifting. Even before I heard of the 2012 theories, I posited from my basic science education that the Van Allen Radiation Belt was dependent on a stable magnetic pole. In the military, we were given a declination as this pole was prone to move at an expected rate per year so we could adjust our compasses base on the year of the map’s publication. This practice has been stopped.
The pole is moving so fast that a declination is for naught, and besides, who uses a compass these days when you can pull out your GPS for location?
Why the attention to a global temperate phenomena we have no control over and why is the shifting magnetic pole, whose radioactive screen from the sun we are protected from, getting so little attention? If the radiation belt’s protection is being reduced by a shifting magnetic pole, would it not coincide with increased warming, from the increased sun’s radiation?
I’m not a scientist, but just a humble user of the compass with an understanding of solar radiation deflected by a planet’s magnetic properties, much the same way a military system would shield itself from EMP by creating an electro-magnetic shunt around itself.
The pole is moving and moving quite fast. All this bullshit about global warming is bulshit. The earth has warmed and cooled several times according to core samples and we just don’t have the proof to explain why.
One thing is for sure, the balance this planet has achieved is not being upset because its inhabitants are cutting down trees and burning derived from oil of far deceased bio-matter. The cycles of cooling and warmth from archeological records prove as much. Our unprecedented expenditure of fossil fuel still don’t prove, over volcanic activity from past ages, that a subsequent impending green house affect will be inevitable without some sort of planetary correction, or god forbid, a cleansing catastrophe.
I am not an alarmist or a believer in doomsday. If someone could explain the magnetic shift, simply, without sell a leftist ideological need to further the cause of global warming, I’m all ears.
Yes it is bullshit, as you say. One thing that’s interesting is that we are currently in a cooling phase and have been for several years. Even some of AGW’s biggest proponents admit that. And CO2 is still rising even though temps are cooling — so I guess CO2 doesn’t drive the temperature up after all. Plus history shows that more people die from cold temps than warm.
But, that whole magnetic pole shift thing you talked about is fascinating to me. I’ve heard the whole 2012 Mayan calendar end of the world stuff and chuckled a bit (the Aztec calendar ends in 2027). Not knowing anything about it, I started searching the Internet…on Wikipedia, they make the distinction between “pole shifting” and “geomagnetic reversal”. Of course, in searching I came across a number of “far out” new-age sites that were not very helpful.
Who stands to lose? We all will; however, the poorest of the poor will suffer most from this scam and this makes the people behind it all the more evil. They are like organized criminals running up a useless stock looking to cash in before the hype wears off. Now that honest science has thoroughly debunked anthropogenic global warming, Copenhagen is their last big push to pump up the stock price before it completely caves.
It really does seem like a Ponzi scheme to me — one that’s set to collapse soon, I hope. And then maybe we can stop hearing the nutbars screech about it.
That Climate Change(TM) is a religion is beyond doubt: in its complete disdain for measurement and observation over modelling and established dogma; its abhorrence of proper risk management; its denunciation and suppression of alternate thought are hallmarks of religious intolerance. Science is never settled. Sermons are.
That there are many – even scientists and highly intelligent people – who wholeheartedly believe in its tenets is also true: religious beliefs, although flavoured by local superstitions, have never been relegated to any particular intellect. The more educated the mind, the more elaborate the rationalizations to support belief become.
If you look at the basic tenets of Climate Change(TM): that the world is out of balance; that we (sinners) are to blame; that ecological catastrophe (Armageddon) awaits us; that acts of self-sacrifice and honourable living can lead to salvation (“sustainability”) – these are all crude re-mappings of standard Biblical stories.
The rise of the modern secular society did not crush existing beliefs (primarily Christianity) under the harsh glare of science and rationality; it merely suppressed standard religious expression and allowed it resurface under a new, acceptable, pseudo-scientific guise. You cannot quash the religious impulse in society; people NEED to believe in something beyond themselves. Rationality does not come naturally or easily to any of us.
And unfortunately, from street evangelists to cardinals to Maurcie Strong and Al Gore, there are always hucksters lurking to take advantage of that need.
Al Gore — a regular Elmer Gantry — or maybe I should say “Almer Goretry”.
George Jonas is a national treasure. His wisdom and wit produce a stark crystal clear analysis of events in an artful capsule. He3′s up ther with Rex Murphy in my top reasoned thinkers list
I couldn’t agree more — I love them both — purely platonic, of course.
