Yesterday… Climategate: this is our Berlin Wall moment!
I’ve just had a great, very sympathetic interview about Climategate on LBC radio (London’s main commercial news and talk station) with Petrie Hosken. She told me she has been simply inundated with callers, all of them utterly unconvinced that human influence has made any significant on so-called “Global Warming”. She was desperate to get a few balancing calls from people who do believe in AGW but just couldn’t find any.

Today… Climategate: the whitewash begins
The appointment of Lord Rees, if confirmed, is especially worrying. It’s the rough equivalent of appointing King Herod’s grand vizier to investigate a mysterious outbreak of mass baby killing in Judaea.

Yep. He’s going to come down hard on those CRU scientists all right. Just the man for the job!
In spite of the damning information contained in the leak (the devil is in the data), the MSM continues to ignore this global swindle, perhaps because they played such a big part in this very successful (until now) campaign to deceive and control.
A lot of very powerful people have a great deal invested — and I mean financially as well as politically. They aren’t about to stop promoting the junk science that brought us to this point. Who knows where this chaotic roller coaster is going to stop. But this is where we should start…

Dear Moose and Squirrel:
Thanks for giving voice to my opinions.
The blogosphere is the best place to bring information to the MSM’s attention. Whether they get it…….well…..
Case in point:
CTV’s Power Point with Tom Clark. I’ve watched the show every day this week and not a peep about the Hadley CRU scandal. Just endless stories about Harper being forced to attend Copenhagan because Obama is going and the insipient whining from the opposition about how Canada is failing in the eyes the world for not acting sooner on the AGW file.
I have a whole series of expletives to descibe this attitude but……
Anyway, thanks for hosting my comments.
Well, thank you for commenting!
The MSM isn’t dying quickly enough in my opinion I agree, but their credibility has.Just look at the non issue position that the CBC,TO. Star ( who just sponsored Gores latest unquestioned procomations),and Globe have taken. Can you trust any of these media to report anything about the truth/non truth anymore, about anything?
I know — I feel the same. All I can say to people is stop subscribing to them and stop buying their crap.
I only look at them online, and that’s just so I can ridicule them. The only parts I truly read are the editorials, especially by my favourites: Jonas, Steyn, Mansur, and so on. I simply skim over what they call “news.”
Don`t hold your breath waiting for the MSM to change their promotional stance. They have been complicit in the whole charade right from the start and I doubt they even realize how wrong they are. They swallowed the Goreacles bait and are not about to spit it out.
I’ve been reviewing the leaked emails from the Hadley CRU and they offer a fascinating view of the researchers collective mindset. It smacks of careerist empire building. I’ve seen this before and it’s not pretty.
I’d like to give you and your readers an example of how hide-bound some branches of science can become.
In the 1960′s, archaeologists in western Canada drilled some lake cores in the foothills west of Calgary. They radio-carbon dated some plant material from the cores and came up with dates ranging from 14,000 to 17,000 yearsBP. Those dates supported the theory of an ice free corridor along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains during the maximum extent of the Wisconsinan glaciation (20,000 to 12,000 yearsBP).
Subsequently, many researchers based their life’s work on this data.
In the late 1980′s, it was shown that the plant material used in the original studies was useless because the plants themselves had absorbed older dead carbon from the lakebed as a nutrient source. The effect was artificially old dates and the original studies were discarded.
That should be the end of the story, but it isn’t. Since the 1960′s, hundreds of radio-carbon dates from across Alberta show a definitive gap in the fossil and human history record between 21,000 and 12,000 yearsBP. However, most archaeologists today are still looking for proof of an ice free corridor in western Canada despite the complete lack of evidence to support the theory. In fact, this theory is still taught today to budding archaeologists in universities across the country and around the world.
The fact is some branches of science are highly resistant to discarding old theories. In fact, I admire their tenacity, even if it seems somewhat miguided to me. Perhaps one day they will be able to confirm the theory and I whole heartedly support them in that quest.
The point is this. Today’s archaeologists are trying to find evidence to support the theory of an ice free corridor during the height the Wisconsinan glaciation. They may be clinging to the past, but their work is straight forward and honest. That is how good science is done.
The climate researchers at the Hadley CRU have just as much interest in protecting their life’s work as the archaeologists I’ve just discussed above.
Instead of acknowledging the data as it is, and risk having their theory questioned and hence their life’s work, they took the low road and now we have a scandal.
I’m not sure there is a larger conspiracy at work here, however it does suggest a serious lack of oversight by the IPCC. The CRU’s are exhibiting the kind of inherently incestous approach to science that is a direct result of poor planning in the formation of the CRU’s. Everyone is a “yes” man and dissenting views are not welcome.
That is what bad science looks like.
On a side note, putting Lord Rees in charge of investigating the Hadley CRU is simply a continuation of the same mindset that created the problem in the first place. As I stated in my letter to the Prime Minister and Learder of the Opposition, Canada must demand an INDEPENDENT and EXTERNAL investigation of the CRU’s. Lord Rees views on AGW are well known and that, in and of itself, should disqualify him to lead any investigation.
Excellent info, Peter. I believe it is a huge conspiracy. The scientists were protecting their careers and trying to keep the grant money coming in; as for government leaders, Big Green and people like Gore/Suzuki — look at all the money that’s already been made off this fraud. And there’s still a lot of money at stake.
Surely you jest. The MSM, having abandoned ‘promotion based on ability’ in favor of ‘promotion based on activist creds’, is never going to do their job and present facts. The MSM are a bunch of activist hacks, who, like cuckoos, have pushed the real journalists out of their places.
Let the MSM die, go bankrupt, go away. From the wreckage we can build a real media. Expecting these parasites to clean up their act is like expecting a tapeworm to leave a safe, warm intestinal tract.
Ooh, I love your parasite analogy.
The MSM isn’t dying quickly enough in my opinion. I keep wondering if there’s something more we could do to hasten it along a little.
