I am one Canadian who is damned tired of listening to the hug-a-thug morons in Parliament drone on about whether the federal government had knowledge of supposed mistreatment of Taliban terrorists. The only people who care about this non-issue are anti-Western, anti-military statists who, to put it simply, hate freedom-loving people.
I know, also, that I am not alone in feeling this way. Last night my hubby and I were watching some lame-stream media source, which yet again was broadcasting Parliament’s terrorist lovers as they continue their attacks on our military and government leaders.
I was so proud when my hubby (who is one of the most apolitical people I know) looked at me and said, “They (the Taliban) are trying to kill our soldiers. They’re sending our guys home in body bags. Why the hell should we give a damn about them?” Even someone as unconcerned as he is about politics, who believes most politicians are essentially all the same (useless), recognizes how moronic it is to show such concern for the enemy over and above our own brave Canadian troops.
So, I read the latest by Ezra Levant — Has Parliament’s law clerk caught pro-Taliban fever? — and thought he summed it all up for us in the first paragraph.
Like most Canadians, I wish the opposition parties and the media would care as much about our Canadian Forces in Afghanistan as they care about the terrorists our Canadian Forces are fighting over there.
Now, he goes on at length about state secrets and the legal wranglings (he’s a lawyer, after all). It’s all quite interesting, and I recommend reading the whole thing. But really, in the end, I don’t give a damn about the Taliban. I am not pro-terrorist, and nothing the opposition says — aided by their supporters in the lame-stream media — is going to turn me to thug-huggery.
What Jack Layton, Ujjal Dosanjh, Bob Rae and their ilk have done is thoroughly raise my level of disgust (and just when I thought it couldn’t get any higher) for them and their policy of turning terrorists into “folk heroes.” I’m very aware of what these terrorists stand for — what they really see as their sworn enemy. And as a woman, I simply won’t put up with people who support that.
UPDATE — Adrian MacNair: Dear Opposition — the Taliban says thanks
UPDATE II: With all due respect to Jay Currie (who, btw, I’ve missed terribly while his site was down), it most certainly is a partisan issue, and it is about power-hungry politicians whose concern rests solely with a ruthless enemy, who would just as soon behead us as look at us — all in the name of trying to oust the Conservatives so that they can scrape and claw their way to power. If that isn’t partisan, I don’t know what is. (Note: Jay’s permalink/comment structure still seems inoperative, so I could only link to his home page and not directly to the post in question. Look for the post titled: The Real Threat.)

Ah yes Somalia, a mission the Libs sent our troops on. A mission where the members were given a malaria drug that was not tested or approved for use in Canada right? However the men in the field were suffering from recorded side effects from said drug, they were having terrible dreams, fits of uncontroled rage and felt prone to violence. Yet the Somalia inguiry was shut down just as medical experts were going to testify, if my memory serves me correctly?
The difference between Somalia and Afghanistan is simple our troops violated no rules of engagement, they followed the letter of NATO law. If the libs were honestly upset why aren’t they taking NATO to task, or why didn’t the libs/NDP and, spit, the Bloc change the rules of engagement when they had the chance?
MSM want’s our troops to be guilty of something anything, they’ll stretch this non-story out for the next six weeks hoping to aid the Libs in the polls. It’s gonna get ugly. Even uglier if classified secret military precedures are debated by the parlimentary hearings publicly.
Working on the coments/perma links thing…glad to know I was missed. I missed blogging.
I am moved forever by these posts, thank you.
To bad you couldn’t post your link on the applicalbe sites but we all know that there would be the usual suspects picking apart each phrase and sentence instead of reaching inside and embracing the emotion and truth!
Well, Jaycurrie, it seems you have a bit of a selective memory with respect to parliamentary rules and parliamentary committees, et al. Without an indepth search I recall during the Chretien dictatorship his government on more than one occasion refused to produce ANY documentation re the Somalia-Canadian Forces disaster; in fact, Chretien himself shut down the parliamentary committee without blinking an eye and, without any of the requested documents being produced.
Speaking of the Committee on free speech it appears that the said committee or members of all parties of parliament were treated to an appointed lackey, namely Ms. Jennifer Lynch, refusing to appear under the Committee’s request/demand and again, Ms. Jennifer Lynch refusing to appear at the same hearing as Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn. Parliamentary committee rules? Oh, wait.
Your outrage over the Conservative government’s refusal to release certain documents to the members of the official opposition parties re parliamentary rules/law fails to address the fact that these weasels in the NDP and Liberal parties have, for political purposes only, shouted and screamed and acted like total idiots (Dosanjh, i.e.) over what is in essence a long ago tempest in a bloody teapot. To quote that woman who operates the website freedominion and who despises Stephen Harper because of her own mistakes.. “I am sick and tired” ..
and, I too am sick and tired of seeing our troopers bleeding and bloody dieing in that godforsaken country when there is nothing but a pack of whining, socialist, egotistical and self-centered leftwing dimbulbs in parliament who care not a whit for our military in Afghanistan and never have other than what can be dredged up such as handing over the terrorists to the Afghan police. Parliamentary procedures – parliamentary laws — pffffffft — Ask that old tyrant Chretien all about parliamentary laws why don’t you either before or after you and the other Harperhaters have voted for Iggy & Co.
I think you have said it all…..the general public do not know what is going on in Afghanistan….if they did..if they saw first hand everything about the children, women and what they have to put up with day after day, they would think again about what freedom we have here in Canada….and at what cost our Canadian Soldiers did for us…they gave there lives, so those people, a very small child, even a baby…..to the very old..to just improve and give hope to them for a better place to live in…My son is on his second tour…right now….I talked to him two days ago, and as a family man himself it breaks his heart to see what happens to the children and the eldery….those bunch of people from the high up here in Canada, who think they know it all should go there and see for them selves…now just a day visit, but for six or nine months and patrol the streets of Kandahar….see what is happening…..need I say more..our Canadian Soldiers are the best, ask any soldier from another country serving along side of them and they will tell you. Canadian Soldiers are the best trained and the have the best knowledge of why they are there…..
Soldiers Mom…….
The opposition is so centred on kicking the Conservatives to the curb and taking over that they don’t care that they’re making an issue out of something that is not an issue. And by doing so they’re trying to cast our troops in a poor light — completely undeserved and disgraceful!
I sincerely pray for your son’s safe return. I hope he and his fellow soldiers are not aware of the nonsense going on back here in government. The troublemakers with their great concern for terrorists do NOT represent the majority of Canadians.
I agree with you about the treatment of suspected terrorists being a matter of indifference where the lives of our troops are at risk.
However, the CPC’s contempt for Parliament and Parliament’s right to full disclosure is absolutely unforgivable and represents an essential threat to Canada’s democracy. A Committee of Parliament has required the production of documents and was told to get stuffed by the bureaucrats. Parliament itself voted to demand those documents and has been told to get stuffed by Cabinet Ministers.
If this is allowed to stand then we have effectively said that there is an Executive Branch read into the Canadian Constitution and that that branch is supreme. Welcome King Stephen the first.
If Harper continues to defy Parliament he and his nitwit Cabinet need to be tossed out on their collective ass.
We’ll have to disagree on this, because the whole thing is one big fat gigantic non-issue to me and to many other Canadians.
And as to tossing out the Conservatives — who would you replace them with? All the other parties are just leftards of varying degrees.
As a serving member of the CF, currently undergoing training for deployment next summer, I can say that these latest lefty rantings don’t even register enough to be mentioned over coffee among my co-workers. These lunatics who rave about Afghans doing to each other what they’ve been doing for centuries, and that somehow those in charge of the CF are responsible for their torture and buggery, belong to the same ideological pathology which let our military languish underfunded for years.
Let’s not talk about the real threats to my brethren and the locals in KAF, such as the rape of young boys on Thursday man-boy love night, or the copious amounts of drugs the locals ingest on a regular basis while they drive and operate equipment, heavy or small. The almost daily incoming rockets, of which the majority have had their warheads removed to be used as IEDs. The risk of malaria in the long summer months. The vast open sewage treatment plant sitting in the middle of KAF whose odoriferous stench you could cut with a knife. The lengthening of tours from 6 to 9 months by the PTB, while parliamentarians have killed bill C-201.
Your hubby is correct. We really don’t give a shit about Johnny Talibandito. We’ll never fix anything in ass-grabistan as long as Islam continues to exist. When a Medieval cult rules the hearts and minds, regression to the time frame it was meant to exist in will continue to destroy any westernization of the ‘stan. The locals don’t want our way of life, no matter what the cultural relativist policies the Gov’t of Canada thinks it might be doing for the betterment of little girls going to school. Short of killing every male over the age of 6 and letting the women take over, nothing will change. The cycle of mysoginy, polygamy, buggery, slavery, jizya, taqiyya, poverty, thievery and the war against the infidel will never end.
Human rights abuses have risen in the last year since 2008 in Islamic countries. Let the lefty lunatics bray about that when they’re not condemning the Harper Government for bowing to the AGW junk science. And where were they for the common man when they helped pass the HST?
Why do I go and why are we there? For the same reasons. Our friends and allies went in and we have a commitment to support them and do our job. Above and beyond that, anything else doesn’t really matter, except the paycheck.
Thank you, Kaffir_Kanuck. I appreciate getting a point of view that comes from someone in our military.
Thank you! I have several family members in the military who have been involved with Iraq and Afghanistan efforts since the 90s. My mother’s cousin was one of the first Canadian soldiers killed in Afgh (Robert Short, who died along with a fellow soldier, our first losses in this campaign) and I feel it is a great dis-service to his memory to watch these attacks on our soldiers on a daily basis. I have cousins in the military who are helping train US soldiers before they go overseas. My uncle recently retired from the navy but he was on HMCS Charlottetown twice after 9/11 over there. I am proud of my family’s committment to trying to help complete strangers on the other side of the world and yes – many many many Canadians feel the same way!
No, thank you and great thanks to your family members and their commitment to serving Canada!
I don’t think any of the terrorist supporters in Canada have even bothered to speak to the military or their family members, because they’d hear a different story. I expect these thug-huggers don’t have the nerve to show their faces around our soldiers and their families.
The majority of Canadians wouldn’t care if they chained the taliban detainees to the floor and fed them pigslop. The left is just plain stupid if they think carrying on and rubbing their noses up against taliban ass is going to score them political points amongst Canadians.
The question presented, that is running through Canadian mind is this,”Whose well being is more important to you? The Canadian soldier or the taliban detainee? I realize that is real hard one for the lefty politician, but for anyone who thinks, it is not.
We’re at war you stupid terrorist loving political whores, get out of the way and let the strong do what has to be done, to win.
I can always count on you to tell it like it is.
Peter McKay said the opposition should slip out of their comfy shoes put on a pair of combat boots and step outside the wire with our soldiers to get an idea of reality . I say they don’t have the ball for anything tougher than a trip to Starbucks in a lite snow fall.
Absolutely right, Rob. They’re a bunch of mealy-mouthed cowards. If you said so much as “boo” to them they’d crap themselves.
