Terrorist attack on Flight 253 prompts new flight restrictions

by Natasha on Sunday, December 27, 2009, 9:51 am · 12 comments

Do you feel safer?

But several airlines released detailed information about the restrictions, saying that passengers on international flights coming to the United States will apparently have to remain in their seats for the last hour of a flight without any personal items on their laps.

Apparently, we should all just sit and pee our pants in the face of terrorist threats. Good move — because nobody would ever think of blowing up a plane in mid-flight, right?

Here’s a thought: When a person is a known terrorist threat, how about putting him on the no-fly list?

Or how about this too: When somebody on an International flight has no passport, don’t let him fly!

As the guys at Bare Naked Islam like to say: It isn’t Islamophobia when they really ARE trying to kill you.

I agree the “Psycho Major” had his premeditation time, but we still didn’t know he was going to actually go off the deep end and snuff out so many of his military brethren in such a swath. Not everyone who subscribes to a doctrine of Islamic extremism will go on a murderous tirade. My point is the unpredictability of such events. Full-scale profiling and the most intense vigilance is no guarantee. Only God knows the mind and heart (if they have one) of each individual. There are many other walking time-bombs out there, but we can never really tell who they are until they pull the pin, and then it’s too late. That’s my main worry these days. I agree with you also that airline security really dropped the ball on Flight 253, with total incompetance. Even this guy’s own father apparently tried to warn authorities of his twisted belief system. Anyways, cheers to a somehow brighter 2010!

There was NOTHING unpredictable about Major Hasan, the Fort Hood terrorist killer. See this below: Comment.

Let’s see: trying to contact al-Qaeda, praising suicide bombers, detailing his radical Islamist beliefs in beheadings — nope, no clues there.

Just once (after over 400 flights since 911) I’d like to see the security staff at the airport search/question/challenge one member of a visible minority.
We’re so afraid of being politically incorrect that they will ignore anyone from a high risk group and get their quota counts by doing cavity searches on wasp grannies.
I realize this is a very politically incorrect comment, but until society starts to acknowledge the source of threats, whether it be terrorists blowing up planes, or gang-bangers shooting up the streets, then all the “security” measures in the world aren’t going to do a bit of good.

Well said. Political correctness will get us all killed if we let it.

I can tell that is what the msm is trying to make this out to be, just another case of sudden jihad syndrome, as you coined it. Way too many muslims willing to dentonate for that evil war mongering god of theirs, for my liking. The death cult of islam is producing more and more terrorist every year. It can no longer be tolerated, and it needs to be stopped being preached or practised in civilized countries.

And there was nothing sudden about it. The army ignored all the evidence right in front of them — in the name of political correct bullshit.

The trouble is, anyone and everyone can become an instant terrorist threat without a moment’s notice. Society can never be vigilant enough or strategically apprehensive enough to catch these wackos before they snap… Case in point – The Psycho Major of Fort Hood Texas. You never know what’s brewing in another’s mind or soul (if they have one) and at what stage of twistedness they may be, based on a myriad of factors and influences. The potential terrorist may not even be a Muslim. He could be independently insane and ready to do some crazy stunt just for kicks. We can’t forfeit our entire way of life worrying about those nutty enough to try such incomprehendable actions with no regard for anyone, not even themselves. It’s like you need an air marshall who’s also monitoring all the passengers at the same time. If the seats are “taser equipped”, then he can push a button to disable the threat before he puts his deed in motion. Of course, this could open the doors for many wrongful taserings, and we’ve seen that before…

Sorry, but where I disagree with you is in your example of “The Psycho Major of Fort Hood Texas”. He didn’t suddenly snap. He made it known well in advance that he had the Muslim jihadist mindset. Western society’s multicultist political correct bullshit ignored all that.

And it isn’t too much in this instance (Flight 253) to expect airline security to restrict an individual from flying when it’s known the person has terrorist connections and no bloody passport.

Your dismissive drivel screams multicultural appeasement. You would be hard pressed to find any attempts, successful or not, to destroy aircraft, or hijack and ransom, in the name of an ideology not linked to Islam.

And we are being forced to forfeit our entire way of life because of these ass clowns. Every increase in airport security and the direct increase in cost and processing time to fly can be traced back to the hijackings by Islamic inspired Arab terrorist who’s cause was taken up by the leftist media which now calls them Palestinians.

Meanwhile, my Mom who’s visiting my sister in Edmonton will probably be put through the wringer, even though she definitely does not remotely fit the racial profile of wanting to cause chaos, unless she wore a sheet over her head, when she flies to see friends in Sun City in January.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. There used to be smoke-free flights before they banned smoking on all flights because tobacco second hand smoke is dangerous for you. Perhaps we should start having Muslim free flights as, whether it is the flying Imams disrupting flights, or a (liar, liar) pants on fire Haji has proven of late, Islam is definitely bad for your health. And not just in the air, simply visit the Relgionofpeace.com for the stats. It’s been a banner year for the ROP.

AND, where has the collective voice of condemnation been from the Islamic groups and associations? Even if they did try to say anything, the lame stream media has been so careful not to mention the Islamic fundamental ties of the perpetrator, that to acknowledge any such voice would be to acknowledge that multiculturalism fails when it comes to Islam. It is a catch twenty-two, so best to keep your head in the sand, which your writ clearly indicates you’ve been doing a good job of it.

Very well said, Kaffir. That major was no ordinary unpredictable psycho who suddenly snapped — nothing could be further from the truth. There was a mountain of evidence before he attacked. He was simply acting in accordance with his warped Muslim ideology, which he preached about publicly.

And here is the link for The Religion of Peace website (one of my faves too).

All the evidence was there — in advance — that the Fort Hood terrorist was a radical Islamist hell-bent on slaughtering his fellow soldiers and other non-Muslims. All the following was known, in advance, by his superiors — and ignored:
His online postings of praise for suicide bombers
His attempt to contact al-Qaeda
– Two years ago at a medical symposium he “launched into a diatribe about his radical Islamist beliefs, such as beheading, burning or pouring hot oil down the throats of unbelievers.”

An armed uniformed air martial on every flight wondering round checking out passengers on a random basis.

Good idea, especially if the idiots are going to allow people with terrorist links and no passports to fly. Of course, it would be nice if they clamp down on that first.
