Star Trek all day on New Year’s Day

New Year’s Day, CHCH will broadcast a whole slew of Star Trek movies starting at 10:30 AM, with the last one airing at 2 AM (Jan 2).

The look on my face must have said it all, because hubby looked at me and said “I guess I know how you’ll be spending New Year’s Day.”

I bought the most recent Star Trek film on Blu-Ray. It is fantastic! It makes the others pale in comparison, but I have to watch them anyway.

I know — I’m pathetic. Please don’t abuse me too badly. Actually, I think hubby is thankful that I won’t be watching, yet again, The Sound of Music and signing along with it. :)

My son in law loaned me his copy of the new Star Trek movie. I thought it was really good. So good in fact I would not be surprised if a whole new version of Star Trek emerged as a continuation of this film both in the theatres and on TV.

I am certain you are right. We will see many more sequels to this current one. And I’m a sucker for the whole thing, so I’ll be buying all the Blu-Rays when they come out. ;)

Good to hear you’re also a Star Trek fan, Dr. Roy. Actually, I do remember that most of the movies were not all that great, but I have to watch anyway — I love Star Trek.

I grew up watching TOS, but I also got hooked on the Next Gen and Voyager (being female I enjoyed seeing a woman in charge). Hubby actually started watching Voyager once Seven of Nine was introduced (go figure). The only Star Trek series I did not like was DS9 (I found it dull).

Space just did that on Boxing Day! And you’re right about JJ Abrams’ treatment. I don’t know if you’ve read the 4 part illustrated mags (Star Trek Countdown) Abrams put out which lays out the entire prequel barely hinted at in the story line by Nero and Old spock. The prequel has all the Next Gen main characters and explains how Nero had his mining ship retrofitted by a secret cloaked Romulan starbase with stolen Borg technology and that Spock’s Jellyfish starship was designed and built by Laforge.

And while watching the first season of JJ Abrams’ Fringe on DVD, there was one episode, The Road Not Taken, where TOS(Corbomite Maneuver-Balock)/DS9(Past Tense[part 2]-Grady)/Enterprise(Acquisition-Frengi) alumni Clint Howard (you should also remember him from that old children’s show gem “Gentle Ben”) plays Michael Carlin, a middle aged geek living with his family who has information about “The Pattern.” When asked about who the threat is from, he explains it’s from Romulans from the future and that his father is Spock. What shameless self promotion, and only a fan would have picked up on the fact that he gave the whole movie plot away when this episode aired months before the theatrical release.

Here’s what Clint looked like in his Child Star role in the 60’s:

And here he is reprising the role for Shatner’s Roast:

And a toast of Tranya to the New Year!

Wow…It makes me feel good to know that there are others out there who are even more into Star Trek than I am. :)

I do remember that episode from TOS — and the show Gentle Ben. Clint Howard seems to also appear in many of his brother’s movies.

I’m not a big follower of Fringe, but have enjoyed some episodes. The show’s almost a little too freaky even for me.

You sound like you’d get along with my wife (and I’d get along with your husband).

I think it would be wonderful if life was a gigantic musical that we all just sing and dance our way through. ;)
