As you might expect, it was all great fun. I met some fantastic people — Lumpy, Grumpy and Frumpy’s Josephine and her husband, Closet Conservative, Scaramouche (the Composer), and of course, Five Feet of Fury and the pun-master BlazingCatFur. Andrew Lawton of Strictly Right, besides being one of the organizers and the MC, also played the part of an Imam, and he even played the piano and sang a bit (you had to be there).
Mark Steyn started off with some great digs at the London Free Press, who decided to try out a new adjective to describe him, and downgraded him from “controversial” to simply “outspoken.” And he couldn’t resist poking fun at the city-run London Convention Centre for canceling him (as too controversial), when they ran Sexapalooza without even blinking. That led to a bit of onstage fun with a dominatrix and an Imam, leading Mark to redirect them to their respective Sexapalooza and Shariapalooza events.
Once the laughter had subsided somewhat, Steyn got down to talking about the serious issues at hand. Kidding — it was still lots of laughs, a humorous take on issues affecting Western civilization as it appears to be heading off a cliff: the delaying of adulthood until well into the 30s (essentially adult “kids” still in school), the lack of ingenuity today compared to say just 50 or 60 years ago (directly related to the delayed development), the capitulation of the left (media, politicians, feminists, etc) to thuggish Islamist bullies, the unsustainability of our debt, and of course, demographics (fewer Western babies). I’m trying to summarize, and I know I’ve left lots out, so I’ll provide some additional links shortly and more to follow later.
One of the highlights was Steyn’s performance of My Sharia Amour (yes, to the tune of Stevie Wonder’s My Cherie Amour), but with a delightful change in lyrics. I’m looking forward to seeing video of that.
Winston (Spirit of Man) was love-blogging (Oops … correction: live-blogging) — check it out here and here — with pics! And Closet Conservative was live-blogging too; she’s got several posts, so go to her main page (lots of details!). She should have pics up tomorrow as well.
So the whole “Head for the Hills” advertised title for Steyn’s speech, in reality turned into a rallying cry to unite and stand up to those who want to both strip our liberty from us and bully us into submission.

Missing events like this is the only drawback of living in Red Deer. Thanks for the coverage and links.
I probably should have taken notes (I’m cursed with a lousy memory), but I often find if I take notes I miss out on little details.
love blogging? No… I wasn’t
Oh my…(LOL)– that is why I rarely blog at night. I’m a morning person; by evening my brain is mush and ready for bed at an early hour. But up and raring to go again by about 6 am.
Dont feel too bad Bob – I was born in Rimbey, live in Ottawa and couldn’t make it.It’s still a 7 hr drive from here.
I feel blessed for Andrew Lawton (Strictly Right) bringing him here to London. My situation is such that traveling very far right now is out of the question. Sorry you weren’t able to make it.
Hi Moose and Squirrel
It was a pleasure meeting you yesterday and I will share your blog on my FB page so that 200 people can get to know you!!! Love your write up!!
Pleasure to meet you too! And thank-you so much for sharing my little blog with your FB followers.
See that write up in the Free press. I laughed, they didn’t want to report it, it was obvious. Depicting it as an old people gathering, was sort of interesting, as they tend to forget the importance of grey power. They forgot the demographics of grey power. When push comes to shove, grey power is the ultimate power. That is why there will be a conservative majority in Canada come the next election.
Typical Freeps! I just finished posting about media coverage here.
And I was offended by the “older crowd” comment. Hey! I’m not grey-haired (my hair color does come out of a bottle, but that’s beside the point).
thanks for linking
Good stuff! It was great to finally meet you last night!
I’m so glad I was able to attend — good to meet you at last too!
I wish Mark and his crew would take this show on tour. I’d be the first in line in NYC.
