Hypocrites at the BC Egg Marketing Board selling “inferior” American eggs to BC

If you buy eggs in BC, you are literally paying for the BC Egg Marketing Board’s propaganda:

The British Columbia Egg Marketing Board, speaking for the province’s egg farmers who control it, routinely laments the growing tendency of consumers to save a buck or so a dozen by buying eggs in the U.S.

Yet B.C.’s biggest egg grading and distribution company, which is owned in significant part by many of those same producers, annually imports hundreds of thousands of dozens of low-cost American eggs and then resells them to consumers at Canadian prices.

In recent years, the imports by egg-grading companies approached a million dozen, nearly half the estimated two million dozen a year bought by B.C. cross-border shoppers. [...]

The upshot is that the B.C. egg producers, through their control of the Egg Marketing Board, can limit the number of hens and thus the total egg production in the province. Many of these same producers, through their ownership of Golden Valley, also stand to profit when American eggs are brought in.

Meanwhile, the hypocrites slander the quality of the same eggs they buy cheap to resell to us chumps in BC:

Geez, had no idea it was that bad! Knew these communist marketing boards were bad, but thanks for giving us the bigger picture. Only strengthen my resolve to keep buying certain foodstuffs in the US (we live near the border of Ont/NY).
Glad to see you back, Natasha!

 Good to see ya back at it! It, kinda goes the same to why we pay world oil prices here while OPEC nations pay next to nothing in their countries and sell at world oil prices to everyone else.

I live in Ontario and am in close contact with local farmers.

We used to get eggs from them…
.
First. from a local farmer who marketed the eggs legally. She had to stop because she also makets fruit and vegetables she raises and meat she purchases from local farmers – and the egg marketing board was threatening her, saying that if she continued selling eggs as well, they would shut down ALL of her farming operationg – not just the egg section…

In order to keep her living, she had to stop selling eggs – even though these were ‘Egg Marketing Board’ approved and within quotas!!!!

THen, we started exchanbing services with a local farmer for some eggs from him…..until he was forced out of business, too, by the bureaucrats who administer the egg marketing board in Ontario….

This is a travesty – an imposition of regulations which fringes upon slavery – if you follow the logical arguments to their conclusion….

Welcome back, my friend!! There are a lot of eggnostics out there, but I still prefer my Canadian dairy products, of which bacon & eggs are integral to my existence. A DQ milkshake ain’t too bad either. Other than that, it’s Mickey D’s Egg Mc’muffin, available on either side of the border…
